I love creating projects with Cosmo Cricket products. I have always admired their unique take on paper patterns and color schemes and I look forward to seeing what new products they reveal at each trade show. Their products are innovative and excellent in quality, they have great customer service, the retail cost of all their products are very reasonable, and they have an outstanding website that is easy to navigate and provides a ton of hilarious material. When I was asked to review their new Get Happy collection I was more than willing to try it out!

For this review I received the complete Get Happy paper crafting kit, along with a package of Get Happy Blackboard shapes. The paper crafting kit contained two each of the six double sided papers in the Get Happy collection, one journaling card sheet, one striptease sheet, a Cosmo Cricket studios inspiration sheet, one alphabet die cut sheet and one shape die cut sheet. The 12x12" double sided design papers were all 65lb cover weight, which in my opinion is exceptional because this means they can easily stand on their own and also stand up well when distressing them or combining them with other mediums. Each sheet included a bar code at the bottom displaying the collection name, the specific paper name and bar code, the year the paper came out, cosmo cricket's website and something I didn't catch the first time but it really made me laugh - it says:(Acid Free. Lignin Free. Fat Free. Sugar Free. High in Fiber.) After seeing this I was like wow, they sure took the whole "Get Happy" thing seriously - way to go Cosmo - you sure put a smile on my face! Speaking of happy, I thought the colors and designs in this collection totally rocked and the rich boldness of the colors really make this collection stand out. The collection colors come in a bright aqua, a very vivid darker blue, a fire engine red, crisp white, a soft yellow, a deeply saturated orange like yellow, a set of beautiful greens that are sort of a cross between limes and peas, and a darker somewhat faded hunter green. All of these brilliant colors are distressed with white and black patterns, type, scratches, paint like effects, etc. The patterns on the papers are funky and fun and offer things like newsprint, stripes, dots, and a mix of collages. The journaling card and striptease sheets are meant to be cut apart and used as page embellishments. They are also double-sided and come with a fantastic variety of sayings and words that make it easy to dress up your page or serve as the page title. Both the 12x12 die cut shapes and alphabet sheets are filled with die cuts that can be matched up with their blackboard counterparts or used as is. The die cut shapes are brightly colored and coordinate with the patterned papers in the collection, and the die cut letters have a spectacular newsprint pattern and include a set of numbers and doubles for some of the letters. Last but not least, the package of Get Happy blackboard shapes comes with four (8 3/4 " x 5 3/4") sheets of black chipboard shapes that coordinate with the collection's matching die cut sheet. The blackboard pieces have a nice thickness to them, punch out easily, and come in cute shapes like cars, airplanes, dinosaurs, decorative frames, flowers, lightning bolts, rockets, words like superstar and play time, and much much more! You can use the blackboard shapes as is, or you can dress them up by coloring them with colored pencils, paint, glitter, rub ons, or basically anything you desire!

I just happened to have the perfect pictures to compliment the "Get Happy" theme of this collection. I had recently taken some pictures of my kids being silly with their cousins, and since all of the Get Happy papers and embellishments are so bright and fun, my first layout was easy to create! The "Snappy" paper caught my eye right off and I thought it looked awesome combined with black and white photographs. As soon as I read the suggestion on the back of the blackboard shapes about using colored pencils to color the shapes, I knew I wanted to try it right away. I started by trying several colors on the negative areas of the blackboard sheets and I was seriously amazed at how cool the results were. It was almost like using colored chalk on a chalkboard and the black just made the colors really pop! So I colored the title of my page, and several of the other blackboard shapes with a blue colored pencil and added them to my page. The colored pencils also looked great on the actual patterned paper, so I colored some of the areas around the photos, and also along the edge of the Snappy paper. I also used a couple of the Get Happy die cuts on top of their matching blackboard shapes, and some I left black and simply outlined them. I trimmed down one of the journaling strips on the Get Happy Striptease paper, added it to the page, and journaled around the pictures.

Title: Play Time!
Products used:
Patterned Paper (Cosmo Cricket Get Happy: Snappy & Get Happy Striptease)
Die Cuts (Cosmo Cricket Get Happy & Tank Mix Die Cuts)
Black Chip Board (Cosmo Cricket Get Happy Blackboard Shapes)
Pen (Staedtler Triplus Fineliner)
Colored Pencils (Staedtler)
Metal Clip (7gypsies)
Stickers (Making Memories)
Jeweled Brad (Karen Foster)
Adhesive (Adhesive Tech, Permanent Bond Glue Runner)

I love the fact that all of the papers not only looked wonderful when used on their own, but when you placed them against black or white cardstock the colors just seemed to intensify even more. For my second layout, I chose the Take Five paper because I thought it really brought out the colors in my main photo, although I have to say it was a hard decision because there were about five other papers that looked equally as good. I trimmed the paper down and sanded the edges to give it a nice white frame. Since the papers were heavy in weight, they sanded easily without ripping and it really made the colors pop. I cut out one of the Get Happy Striptease stripes, placed pop dots behind it for extra dimension, and placed it on my page to use as the title. I rounded the corners on the Love journaling card and used it as a large page tab. I used the "x" and "o" Tank Mix die cuts as is because I thought they looked terrific in the white/newsprint. To complete the layout, I used a white sharpie to journal on the clear heart and around the Take Five paper.

Between all the different die cuts, blackboard shapes, and papers, there were a large variety of words and sayings to mix and match. I wanted to take advantage of this for my third project. I decided to decorate a tin box I had left over that had previously been used for product packaging. I traced and cut out the Lucky paper so it would fit perfectly inside the tin. Then I trimmed two of the Striptease stripes and adhered them to the inside. I used a green colored pencil and a glitter gel pen to color the blackboard stop sign and arrow, then adhered them to one of the journaling cards that I had placed on pop dots. I added the matching die cuts to the "get happy" blackboard letters, and then placed them inside of the cute blackboard frame. To complete the box, I added a few felt butterflies, and then used glitter glue to decorate them and the outside edge of the tin. Of course you can read it however you like, but in my mind it reads: Stop...Reality Check..Get Happy...Someday This Will All Make Sense! I think this will make a super cute shelf decoration and just looking at it quite literally just makes me happy!

Everything about this collection was fun, including designing projects with it! I loved the colors, the patterns, the cute little sayings/journaling prompts, and the quality of the papers and die cuts was exceptional. I have fallen in love with the blackboard and I'm looking forward to working with the other 7 blackboard collection mixes as well as the gorgeous blackboard mini-albums! This was a truly inspiring collection to work with and I would definitely recommend that you try it out!

Cosmo Cricket just keeps coming up with great collection after great collection - from robots to french inspired florals, they've explored a wide variety of themes in the recent product releases. For this review, I'm working with the Complete Paper Crafting Kit and Blackboard package for the Fleuriste Collection. Full of beautiful 12" x 12" double-sided paper, die cuts and an idea sheet, the Kit could create an entire album in short order. Adding the Blackboard, "think chipboard without the ugly grey edges", with it's 45 pieces, you've got a great embellishment set to boot!

"Fleuriste", meaning florist in French, is a beautiful blend of floral, geometric and word elements. Each pattern is collaged with overlapping elements to give a dimensional effect to the paper. The 12 papers are double-sided offering 24 different designs. Tones of green, dark brown and mulberry are present in each pattern, some more prevalent than others depending on the sheet. The paper is heavy with a smooth texture. I love the added tab showing the name of the paper and other important information: "acid free, lignin free, fat free, sugar free, high in fiber." - it just makes me chuckle when I see that!

The Crafting Kit has two pieces of each patterned paper for a total of 24 sheets. There is a Journaling Card sheet, also double-sided, showing titles and fill-in areas. The "Strip Tease" double-sided sheet has full length titles and sayings in strips, ready to cut apart as needed. Two die cut sheets of upper case letters and flowers match the patterned paper for instant compatibility. The Kit cover sheet displays the contents of the package then flips to show 10 project ideas. It's really nice to have everything you need in one spot, including the inspiration ideas!

The package of Blackboard is patterned after the die cut sheet in size and shape. Thick and solid black, this chipboard is elegant all on it's own! Adding the patterned die cuts to it gives nice dimension with a solid base. Adding ink or other coloring mediums to the base offers complete coordination with any project, not just to Fleuriste. Each piece is crisply cut leaving no webs or fuzzy edges, nice!

Diving right into a layout, I chose one of the titles from the Journaling Card sheet and built the page from there. Using both sheets of the Cobblestone pattern enabled the page to be completely coordinated due to using each side of the paper. The dark pattern contrasted well with the lighter side and served as a great base for the white pigment ink stamping. The weight of the paper was ideal for the butterfly wings as it held the shape in place.

Stamps (Inque Boutique)

Adhesive (Adhesive Tech, Permanent Bond Glue Runner)

For the second project, I used a layout idea from the inspiration sheet included in the Kit. Distressing the edges of the patterned paper and photo was the first step in this page. I loved the worn look to the background, so adding more distress and ink to the edges really helped add dimension and definition. Taking one of the Strip Tease sayings, I trimmed it down to fit inside one of the circular die cuts backed by a solid pattern. Accenting the flowers and photo with a white pen coordinated well with the title. The Blackboard elements were a bit too dark, so a spritz of a Perfect Pearls, Distress Reinker and water lightened up both pieces to better coordinate with the page. A touch of glitter glue to the flower centers added the final bit of subtle glitz to the page.

White Pen, Walnut Stain Distress Ink and Golden Rod Stickles (Ranger)

To try out some die cutting with the paper and inking, I designed this card using those techniques. The paper cut very cleanly with no problems. The ink dried quickly on the smooth paper and didn't warp when sprayed with the mini mister solution. I'm really happy with the result.

Title: Heavenly Card

Die Cut and Embossing Machine (Spellbinders Wizard)
Adhesive (Adhesive Tech, Permanent Bond Glue Runner)

Working with Fleuriste in the patterned paper, die cuts and Blackboard was great fun on these projects. The warmth in color and pattern really shines through as you start working with the Collection. The material is high quality in every way. The Blackboard package is a unique alternative to the traditional grey chipboard and a welcome one at that. The choice to use as is, with patterned paper or color yourself offers the ultimate in flexibility for your project. Fleuriste works for any theme - friends, family or travel, you name it!

For a terrific all-around collection, Fleuriste works! Need classic style with a French flair? Stop right here, Cosmo Cricket has it with this collection!

Review by Chris

I remember first seeing Cosmo Cricket at a trade show a couple years ago, and I was impressed by the quality of their product and the creativity of their designs. I also was impressed with the owners/designers of the company when I met them. Their sense of humor comes through in their paper designs and on their website. If you visit their site, among links to inspirational galleries, locations of stores to purchase the product and a full listing of all their products, you’ll also find a bit of history about the naming of the company (an anagram using letters from Eric’s name) and a "Hubby Panic Button," which takes you to a cleverly designed page showing men’s ties created using designs from some of their patterned papers. Very fun!

Lucky for me, I was assigned to review the Cogsmo line this month. I just love the whimsy of this collection with its robotic theme – perfect for scrapping photos of my often goofy son and his best friends! I received the Papercrafting Kit which includes: 2 sheets of each paper in the collection (a total of 12 papers), 2 die cut papers (alphas and shapes), a double-sided sheet of journaling cards, and a double-sided sheet of strips of patterns and words. There is also an inspirational sheet in the kit, with sketches for layouts, cards and projects, providing a great kick-start to creativity. I was pleased that the kit contains two sheets of each paper, since I frequently have trouble deciding which side of the two-sided paper to use. In this case, one side has a pattern and the other is a coordinating solid, taking away the often difficult task of finding cardstock to match the papers. The paper is 65 lb. cover weight which makes it great for layouts, cards and other projects.

I also received a pack of coordinating black board shapes. If you have not seen Cosmo Cricket's black board embellishments, you are in for a treat! As the name implies, they are black. No more grey edges to deal with after you've painted, covered or inked your chipboard. The edges are already nicely black. You can also use these shapes as they come, for a striking contrast on your project. Love this product!

As I mentioned, my son and his friends are often goofy, even on serious occasions like Prom. On this layout, I used both sides of the Logic Board paper on a black background with Bandwidth as the photo mat. I love the little robot black board shapes. In this case, I used colored pencils to color in certain sections of the robot. I cut up the “heroes” word strip to use for my journaling and added the die cut alphas for the title.

As part of Matt's graduation celebration, my dad wanted to take him and a couple of his friends to Lawry's. The guys were goofing around, peeking over the top of the menus and I could not resist snapping their photos. This layout uses Links, Portals and Bandwidth papers from the Cogsmo collection, as well as some cog die cuts and shapes from the Black Board set. I really like the movement that these papers and shapes give to the layout.

Finally, I created a Congratulations card for one of Matt's friends, who also graduated high school this week. I used the Bandwidth and Links papers along with a die cut and an image cut from the Mr. Roboto paper.

Cosmo Cricket incorporates fun and fancy into their papers. Their designs are always fresh and unique and the color palette pleasing and well coordinated. The heavier weight of their paper allows it to be used in a variety of situations without the need for supporting cardstock. I love the black board – it's such a versatile product to work with! Cosmo Cricket has a wide variety of different paper collections available. If you have not yet experienced their products, I definitely recommend that you do. You can't go wrong.

Do you like the aged and distressed look in your scrapbooking? If so, I am sure you have worked with the Cosmo Cricket line of scrapbook products. Cosmo Cricket is a scrapbook company that specializes in aged and distressed scrapbook papers, journaling cards, die cut letters, die cut shapes that coordinate with their chipboard shapes and the hot new product, Blackboard chipboard.

The Cosmo Cricket papers all have a definite antiqued look to them, sort of like a well worn bedspread from your grandmother’s house. The papers are double sided cardstock weight scrapbook papers. One side has a vintage pattern which looks like it could have been inspired by vintage wallpaper or fabrics. The other side has a distressed solid pattern which would be suitable for use as a background paper if you chose to do so. Most product lines come with a coordinating set of die cut letters or shapes as well as some form of chip board. The patterns in each line are designed to coordinate together for easy and fast scrapbook pages. But, one of my favorite features of the Cosmo Cricket paper packs is the Cosmo Cricket Studio. The studio is an inspiration packed back page for the coversheet. The studio contains layout sketches, card sketches and project ideas designed for use with your particular paper pack and embellishments.

For this review I received a Honey Pie Complete Paper Crafting kit which includes:

In addition to the Complete Paper Crafting Kit, I also received a package of Honey Pie Blackboard shapes. These shapes are made of black chipboard. They coordinate perfectly with the shapes die cut sheet in that each die cut shape has a coordinating chipboard shape. The two may be paired together for a classic chipboard die cut look. However, the blackboard chip board can also be used in many other unique ways. The chipboard can be used alone for the classic black look ( one of my favorites), or it can be colored with a variety of colorants including chalk, paint crayons, colored pencils or other colorants for many unique looks.

For my first project, I made a layout using both sides of the Clementine patterned paper. I have spent a lot of time a lot of time playing around with “antiquing” my photographs. I have quite a few that I really loved, that were unrelated, but that I really wanted to scrap together. I like the antique look of the Cosmo Cricket Honey Pie papers because they worked well to tie the unrelated photos together. The paper reminds me of grandma’s wallpaper, which was in keeping with my antiqued photos. Even the name Clementine has an “aged” feel to it.

For my second project, I used an idea I saw on the back to the coversheet or the Studio page. The studio idea was to create stitched pockets for the journaling cards to make a mini album. I don’t have my sewing machine with me and really wasn’t up to a lot of extra work, but loved the idea of using the Journaling cards for a mini album as I rarely use these on my layout. They are pre-designed and it always seems like such a waste to not use the cute cards. After tossing the idea around for a bit, I came up with a mini album project that made use of the cards and decorated back sides. For my album, I cute the journaling card sheet into six 4 x 6 cards. I took 3 x 5 pictures and placed them on my cards, making the best use of the patterns from the cards as mats for my pictures. I finished the album with a few die cuts from the die cut sheet and blackboard shapes, placed off center from each other along with a little of my hand doodling. I love this little “favorites” album. It is the perfect size for a brag book.

The Cosmo Cricket Honey Pie collection is a great collection for scrapping a lot of different types of projects. The antiqued feel of the papers makes it perfect girly layouts, adult pages or even heritage pages. The colors are soft and beautiful and have a warm feel. And the blackboard shapes are just plain fun. The black color makes them perfect to use alone or covered with their corresponding die cut. This beautiful collection is definitely one to try.

Review by Tammy

When I first saw Cosmo Cricket several years ago I immediately fell in love with their style. In fact, it was the first paper line that I had ever purchased in a complete package. I was truly hooked on anything that had the Cosmo Cricket label and would search the stores to see if anything new had been released. Over the past year, my passion for Cosmo Cricket gently faded until I got my hands on the new Fleuriste Complete Paper Crafting Kit by Cosmo Cricket!

The Fleuriste Crafting Kit contains 12 double sided sheets of printed cardstock; 1 sheet floral, frames, and flourishes die cut sheet; 1 sheet die cut alphabets and numbers; 1 sheet journaling cards; 1 sheet Strip Tease (design strips in various widths with quotes about family); and Design Studio (found on the reverse side of the cover sheet).

Another new addition to the Cosmo Cricket line is black chipboard known as Blackboard. The Fleuriste Blackboard contains 45 pieces that coordinate with the frames, flourishes, and flowers found on the die cut sheet in the crafting kit. The Blackboard pieces are black throughout which does not leave you with ugly grey edges to cover up with paint, pens, or some other method. By using the die cut shapes with the Blackboard pieces, Cosmo Cricket has eliminated the need for cutting and sanding. Covering chipboard has never been easier!

What I love most about the Fleuriste Crafting Kit is that it has a very feminine/floral touch throughout while at the same time portraying a western flair. It was a simple choice to make when deciding which photo to use with this collection. The patterns and colors coordinated so easily that this page came together very quickly. The chipboard pieces were easily covered by using the coordinating die cuts and by adding some of the included monogram letters my layout was complete!

When I began to think about the second project that I would make, I remembered that I had recently purchased this Word Book to make as a gift for a friend. Once again, the patterns and colors in this collection coordinated so well that completing this book was an easy task even though it looks like it took hours. The Journaling Cards and Strip Tease sheets along with the Blackboard pieces gave me the perfect embellishments needed for this book. When adding the photo mats, I left them blank so that my friend will be able to insert the pictures she wants to keep in this album. I think this is a beautiful gift and I owe it all to the Cosmo Cricket Fleuriste Crafting Kit and Fleuriste Blackboard.

The Cosmo Cricket Blackboard has so many possibilities other than covering it with the die cuts. You can use paint, pens, markers, pencils, crayons, whatever you can think of to alter the look of these chipboard pieces. Since the pieces are black rather than grey or white I was curious to see how well different mediums would cover on such a dark surface. I began by using a medium green colored pencils on this piece. As you can see the color changed dramatically but yet it was still visible.

I wanted to add some highlights and shadows so I chose a darker green and a white pencil to achieve my desired look. I was amazed at how well the colors still popped on the Blackboard. I wanted the flowers to be a bit more vibrant than the greenery that I had already colored in and the pencils just seemed to give too much of a muted tone so I went over the flowers with markers. What a difference that really made! I added a few touches of glitter glue to the Blackboard and a piece of the Strip Tease before adhering it to my card base. I cut out the thank you from the Journaling Cards and my card was finished!

It is not surprising that Cosmo Cricket has produced another winning combination with the Fleuriste Crafting Kit and Blackboard. The design and style of this collection is sure to bring lots of inspiration to your crafting experience. But, if for some reason you still have trouble being inspired by this collection, just turn over the cover sheet and you will find 4 layout sketches, 5 card sketches, and 1 project idea. Another added bonus by the folks at Cosmo Cricket!

And just in case you have been wondering, according to the packaging these items are not only Acid Free and Lignin Free, but they are also Fat Free, Sugar Free and High in Fiber! So what are you waiting for? Run out and get your Fleuriste Crafting Kit by Cosmo Cricket today!
